I bought my 2002 GSXR600 last yr and am just now finding time to work on it. With the headlights, if I have it on the low beam setting, nothing is on. But when I turn on tthe high beams, both lights turn on. I checked the fuse, its fine. I also looked for the yellow wire on the right side, i didnt see anything that looked too bad, but maybe i just dont really know what to look for. Thanks, I was also wondering what kind of oil and filter you guys recomend using.

I'm having the same prob. on my 01 gixxer 1k.
My Thread
I checked the bulbs, both fine. Checked the plug, plugs fine, but no voltage. Checked the switch, switch was fine, no voltage to the low beams. Mine's in the Stealership right now for that prob b/c nobody could help me and I got frustrated after 2 weeks of trying to find the problem. Still no clue and waiting to hear back from the Dealership.

Hey Lads, I'm an automotive tech and I do most of the wiring at my shop, so I'll do the best I can to help you diagnose this. First thing is a wiring diagram, i was able to track down one for a k2 gsxr1000 ( if anyone has one for this 600 it'd be better) but i am goin to presume the lighting circuit works the same. Next is a test light (probe that connects to either battery terminal and has a light to show when you have power), they make things go a lot easier in wiring, they are usually fairly cheap at the local parts stores.

Start with seeing where you lose power to the low beam in easy to access places, such as connectors or fuses.

Now you have checked the fuses to make sure they're not blown, so now use the test light to make sure you are getting power to them. With all connectors hooked up, the key turn to the on position and lowbeam selected, connect the test light to the negative battery terminal (this checks for power to where ever you probe), and touch both sides of the top of the lowbeam fuse with the probe. If the light on the test light lights up, you're good up to this point, if it doesn't you have a problem within the wiring system up to the fuse. If only one side of the fuse lights up but the other does not, the fuse is the problem ( even if it looks okay), change it.

Now use this to start, and if you feel up to it, check the rest of the system using the test light. My k3 is in pieces since its the off season here in Canada so i will put it back together and look at the system myself to see if i notice any other good connection spots to check.

Get back to me and we'll continue on from there.

Cheers

get at that yellow connector on the right hand side and check the low beam wire to make sure that you have voltage there. I had problems with my 02 600 a few months ago and it didn't look bad either.... Honestly, that would be the first place I would be checking out for power and then work your way from there according to your wiring diagram

Im an idiot. lol. I think I figured it out. It might be the bulbs. The plug has 3 holes, and my lights have 2 prongs.. hmm, i bet that 3rd unused one is for the low beams. My owners manual says my 2002 600 shoud use h7 bulbs, but im pretty sure it needs H4 ones instead. Im gonna try that and see what happens
