GSX-R750RK : Japanese-spec restrictions

My RK is one of the JDM-spec models (GR79C/R715). It's been around a bit since then and I was told by the previous owner that it'd been derestricted, but he was vague with the details. :sad

I'm convinced it doesn't go as well as it should - having spent all weekend jumping from it to a 750-Ltd (also JDM) and ZXR750R-M and back again, mine just seems a bit lacking in outright shove. There's also an ignition glitch (or deliberate rev-limiter ?) that kicks in at 10000rpm.

I've got a garage full of assorted J-spec bikes and any restrictions on those are speed-related. My RK's still running the J-spec kmh clocks but it's not that it hits a certain speed and stops, more that it just feels a bit flat. :dunno

I've read all sorts of stuff on here and elsewhere about how the J-spec models are restricted, but no-one's ever given the definitive answer, at least that I can find. Has anyone got the facts ?

Javadog is the knower of all things RK here but there are a bunch of things that you can look at like carbs, jets, engine serial numbers for a start. I knew the 1st gen JDM bikes were restricted but I didn't realize they restricted the RK as well.

I'm sure someone here has some knowledge about the JDM RK bikes.

We'll need some pictures of course.

Bikes that were imported in germany and france were also restricted to 100bhp.

Probaly not as much in japan but still max output was 100bhp.

My GSX-R750SP, which in a homologation model for the wsbk 1994 (200 built!) was imported in france and germany only (6 also in the uk), should have 100bhp.

Documents list that.

I might become in the possesion of some Suzuki WSBK parts (dry clutch, carbon, covers,...) for a 1994 model so i think i might make this an 750SP-WSBK and just clean it up.

Then i will keep this bike for collecting and buy another bike for driving on the street.
